Vision, Purpose & Mission

Vision

The Faculty of Education's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee's mission is to develop a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive learning and working environment that values diversity and advances social justice. The committee envisions a faculty where every individual, regardless of their background, identity, or experiences, feels valued, represented, and empowered to thrive both academically and professionally.

Purpose

The DEI committee believes that diversity is essential for both academic performance and the entire human potential of Israeli society.

The Faculty of Education recognized its significant societal role in promoting social mobility, bridging social and economic barriers, and ensuring that all facets of Israeli society have access to higher education. The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee was established with the aim of promoting and championing diversity, equity, and inclusion activities within the Faculty of Education. All academics, students, and staff are invited to contribute to a varied variety of viewpoints, experiences, and ideas as part of the committee's effort to build a sense of community and mutual respect. To build a more equitable and inclusive educational environment, the committee works in collaboration and via advocacy to eliminate systemic hurdles, prejudices, and disparities.

The committee is committed to:

1. Cultivating a Diverse Community: Create a community that is representative of a wide range of opinions, worldviews, and cultural backgrounds. Also, the committee aims to create a safe and protected environment for each student in order to ensure their academic, psychological, and social success.

2. Promoting Inclusion and Belonging: Regardless of identities or histories, the committee aims to promote an inclusive and inviting environment where everyone feels a feeling of belonging, respect, and validation.

3. Promoting Equity and Fairness: The committee's focus is on locating and resolving discrepancies and inequities within the faculty. It tries to make sure that everyone in the community has equitable access to the chances and tools required for both personal and professional development.

4. Creating Safe Spaces: The committee works to establish secure settings for candid conversations and fruitful debates regarding diversity and inclusion. It promotes understanding and empathy by encouraging the exchange of ideas and experiences.

5. Promoting Change: The committee actively promotes laws, procedures, and initiatives that advance inclusion, equity, and diversity. In order to affect good change, it works with other faculty committees, departments, and university leadership.

6. Promoting Education and Knowledge: The committee is dedicated to offering educational opportunities and increasing public knowledge of issues relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion. It aims to advance a better comprehension of the value of variety in the context of education.

Three principles will guide the activities of the DEI Committee:

  1. Fostering inclusion and diversity within the faculty
  2. Sensitivity to the students’ challenges when at faculty
  3. Human diversity: widening diversities among students and faculty
    • Increasing diversity among academic and office staff
    • Increasing student diversity

By fulfilling its vision, purpose, and mission, the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee plays a crucial role in shaping a more inclusive and equitable educational environment within the Faculty of Education.
