The purpose of the postgraduate studies is to prepare the student for independent research in education.
Applicants must contact a prospective supervisor from the department (with the rank of senior lecturer or higher) and approval of his consent to the supervision.
Students can be supervised by renowned researchers in Israel and around the world in various fields of education: leadership and management of education systems, special education and learning disabilities, use of advanced technologies in learning, child development, educational counseling and non-formal education.
Doctoral students are required to attend at least one scientific conference in Israel (possibly also abroad) and present his work or part of it.
Ph.D. studies at Bar-Ilan University prepare students for independent research in education. Students are guided by researchers well-known in Israel and around the world in various fields in education.
Students must demonstrate theoretical and methodological knowledge in the research field, scientific writing skills, as well as the ability to plan and implement research.
There are 3 tracks available:
Track A: Regular Track
Admission requirements
Applicants for doctoral studies must be master's degree graduates in education in the research track (with a thesis) with an average grade of 88 or above in all courses and an average grade of 88 in their thesis. Acceptance is subject to university policies and the School of Education, as well as regulations and procedures of the School of Graduate Studies.
The Academic Standing Committee is not obligated to accept each applicant who meets the aforementioned requirements.
Application requirements throughout admissions process
1. Applicants must provide two references written by academic personnel.
2. Applicants must prepare a document declaring their intended research mission statement.
3. Applicants must undergo an interview with two faculty members in the school of education.
Track B: Combined Track
Admission requirements
The combined track is meant for master's degree students in the research track interested in starting their doctoral studies before starting work on their M.A. thesis.
Admissions requirements:
1. An average grade of 90 or above in all their M.A. courses.
2. Submission of a research proposal (77-950-03) for doctoral studies no later than the end of their second year of M.A. studies.
All aforementioned requirements are subject to university policy and departmental policies in reference to postgraduate studies and likewise to the regulations and procedures of the School of Graduate Studies. The Academic Standing Committee is not obligated to accept each applicant who meets the aforementioned requirements.
Note: Approval of the research proposal by the research advisor make it possible for the candidate to receive a Master's degree.

Track C: Completion Track
Two groups of students will be required to undertake completion courses for a Ph.D.:
- Students with an M.A. degree, with a thesis, in fields similar to education.
- Students with a M.A. degree in education without a thesis.
- Cases in which the School of Graduate Studies requires that the applicant undertake completion courses as a condition prior to his standing as a doctoral student
Acceptance requirements - M.A. degree graduates in fields similar to education (with a thesis):
Applicants who are M.A. graduates in fields similar to education with a thesis with an average grade of 88 in all their courses and a grade of 88 or above in their thesis can apply to Ph.D. studies. All aforementioned requirements are subject to university policy and departmental policies in reference to postgraduate studies, and likewise to regulations and procedures of the School of Graduate Studies.

Acceptance requirements - B.A. degree graduates in education without a thesis
Applicants who are bachelor's degree graduates in education without a thesis and finished their studies with an average grade of at 95 or above can apply to the doctoral program.
