During this new academic year, Bar-Ilan University will embark on a new endeavor- the "Wellness" program (in Hebrew, "SHLOMUT") as part of the master's degree program "Science and Technology Education". This is the first time such a program has been launched at an Israeli university.

In recent years, health education has been at the heart of educational efforts in education worldwide and in Israel. Wellness education is about training educators, developing curriculum, and educational activities aimed at improving and promoting individual and social 'wellness', imparting knowledge, developing life skills, and bringing learners to voluntary adoption of healthy behavior as an individual and as a society. Shlomut is a term coined by the Hebrew Language Academy for "wellness". The term encompasses all physical (ex: health, sport, and nursing), mental (ex: psychology, music, and art), and social (ex: social work, economics, law, and environmental sciences) well-being.

Applicants with a B.Sc. in Science or B.Ed. in Science and Mathematics, and who meet additional criteria, or hold a bachelor's degree from a variety of fields including scientific aspects (physical therapy, public health, nutrition, physical education, medical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, geography) may be accepted to the master's degree program in Science and Technology Education. In addition, applicants with a teaching certificate or a degree in education or experience may be accepted.

Dr. Ornit Spektor-Levy, Head of the Science and Technology Education program at the School of Education at Bar-Ilan University: "It has already been proven that body and mind are interrelated. We are delighted to join the many universities in the world that have introduced the field to academia and believe it will be of great value among educators, teachers, and therapists. The program is challenging, innovative, and has the potential for advances in research in many fields: science education, health education, technology, sports, and more. Studies and research in this program invite collaboration with researchers from diverse departments in the university."
