Guide: Professional development within the New Horizon framework

The Ministry of Education requires that each beginning teacher, in the first year following their internship, participate in a professional development course in the framework of the New Horizon reform.

The course is mandatory for all teachers who belong to the New Horizon/Oz Li'Tmura reform. Teachers who do not belong to any of the reforms and want to join the course in order to accrue wage compensation can enroll if there are available slots.

Target population

Beginning teachers who completed their internship successfully and are employed at least one-third of a full-time position. Teachers in New Horizons receive preference to slots in the course, but teachers otherwise are also invited.

Wage recompense is awarded after attending 30 hours and with a final grade.

30 hours in a group setting: a 4-hour group meeting, once a month (7 times)

There are an additional 20 hours of personal hours with a mentor from a school that the participating teachers choose. The role of the mentor is determined together with the course participant and does not include an evaluation.

Course requirements

Full participation and attendance, submission of work with a grade.

Course content

Tailored to beginning teachers. Example courses are: "The Organization and I", "Career and Leisure", "Special Education", "Coping with Classroom Management", "Teaching in a heterogeneous class".
