פרופ' טובה מיכלסקי, ראשת החוג להכשרת מורים
Prof. Michalsky serves as Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Education and Head of the Department of Teacher Training in the Faculty of Education at Bar-Ilan University. Prof. Michalsky explores self-direction in all aspects of learning.
One aspect deals with students and the study of the processes and characteristics of learners with effective self-direction in learning.
Another aspect focuses on teachers and the ways in which teachers can train self-directed cultivators. Prof. Michalsky's recent publications deal with the development of a model that uses filmed lessons as a tool to advance teachers' pedagogical knowledge for teaching self-direction in learning.
The model is innovative in that it directs teachers to analyze students' behaviors as well, rather than settling for the traditional analysis of teacher behaviors. The book "Self-Learning: Perception, Contribution and Empirical Models for Teaching and Learning", which she edited with Prof. Chen Schechter, won the 2017 Book of the Year title in Education.
Prof. Michalsky has won four research scholarships from the prestigious National Institute of Science ISF. The latest grant won by Prof. Michalsky will be used to establish a center of excellence for meaningful learning. The head of the Department of Teacher Training says: "I invite quality students with an academic approach, who consider teaching a mission and a challenge to come and study to obtain a teaching certification with us in the Faculty of Education, at Bar-Ilan University."
Our teacher training is not a collection of courses and credits that are grouped into a diploma, but a concentrated effort around a clear goal: to prepare the teacher for his challenging role. This goal is the basis for a program for professional developmentfor teachers: teaching certification, internship year, and entry into teaching which optimally prepares its participants for the challenges facing educators and teachers in the education system and takes care to ensure that every hour in teacher training is utilized. The studies in the Department of Teaching Studies combine experience in guided teaching at the Simulation Center and in the field with courses in general education, research literacy in education and teaching, pedagogy, methodology and skills acquisition.
Prof. Tova Michalsky heads the Unit for Teaching, Internship, and Professional Development studies. The intensive teaching certification studies is concentrated in one study day per week for two years (when combined with a graduate degree, it is possible to complete in one year)
The Department of Teaching Studies trains teachers in subjects taught in post-primary schools, grades 7-12, (excluding the music and English track which trains for multi-age teaching: 1st-12th), in a variety of disciplinary fields in natural sciences, mathematics, humanities, social sciences, Judaism and languages. A teaching certification is required for obtaining a teaching license from the Ministry of Education and receiving all the rights of a teacher in the school in terms of salary and opportunities for promotion.
